The World Containerboard Organisation (WCO)

.. was formed to fill an important gap in information for containerboard producers:
Around 1998-99, with new containerboard capacity coming on stream in Australia and in developing parts of the world, such as China and Eastern Europe, industry leadership realised the need for a broader association that would promote the business interests of the worldwide containerboard industry through various kinds of services and activities.

It was intended to support and supplement those services provided by the national and regional trade associations that focused on a specific geographic area.

In 2000, after significant groundwork for the new organisation was completed, 40 companies met in New Orleans, La., to establish a mission statement and set up goals for the World Containerboard Organisation.

Today, WCO members include containerboard producers from every continent that has mills. In less than a decade of existence, WCO has established itself as a major source of information to containerboard manufacturers globally, as well as an association promoting the interests of the papermaking community.
